Hot Stone Reflexology

Stones have been used in ceremonies and treatments since around 1500BC and have been connected with the Incas, the Shang Dynasty in China and ancient Egyptians. The combination of the warmth and massage used in hot stone reflexology relaxes the body at its deepest level and the subtle energies of stones calm the senses, reduce muscle tension and promote a meditative state.

The heat from the stones penetrates to a deeper level and may reach up to 7-8 cms into the superficial layer of muscle; bringing about physiological changes and changing the body's energy flow.

The stones are very grounding given that they are made from basalt, an igneous rock which is a natural product of the Earth. Basalt is an ideal substance as it retains heat for long periods of time due to its density and smoothness.

‚ÄčIn terms of what to expect, the routine itself is similar to a regular reflexology treatment, except the relaxation is generally at a much deeper level. I have a mobile heater bag which heats the stones on the go - all I need from you is a socket to plug them in so they can carry on being heated throughout the treatment.

Mindful Reflexology

Stress, depression and anxiety are becoming increasingly more prevalent in our modern world with 1 in 4 people experiencing some kind of mental health problem in any given year. The effect of this can be debilitating with quality of life hugely affected. It is easy to fall into a downward spiral of unhealthy eating, lack of exercise and social isolation which leads us to feel even worse.

Mindfulness is a Buddhist technique which can help us change the way we think and feel about our experiences, leaving us better able to cope with the strains and stresses of everyday life, and thereby reducing the depression and anxiety that may follow.

Mindful reflexology encourages the release of the 'happy chemicals - oxytocin, dopamine and serotonin which in turn helps us relax, releasing stress and feel more present in our bodies. This can allow us the headspace to clarify our thoughts and calm the busy-ness of our mind. As with all reflexology, it restores equilibrium and balance to the body and the power of affective touch should not be under-estimated.

Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than you. - Dr Seuss
